Rosetta Thurman

Rosetta ThurmanRosetta Thurman (www.rosettathurman.com) grew up in the public housing projects of Cleveland, Ohio, and if it weren’t for the nonprofits in her community who helped her family in times of need, she doesn’t know where she would be today. Fueled by a passion for social change, Rosetta worked in the nonprofit community for eight years before founding Thurman Consulting, an education company specializing in personal and professional development to help nonprofit leaders and passionate entrepreneurs change the world.

Rosetta is the co-author of How to Become a Nonprofit Rockstar, 50 Ways to Accelerate Your Career, an accessible, do-it-yourself guide for how to build a successful career in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from Trinity Washington University and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University. Rosetta has also taught leadership and nonprofit management courses as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Professional Studies at Trinity Washington University. In 2008, she was named a “New Leader in Philanthropy” by Greater DC Cares.

Rosetta has been featured in numerous media outlets such as JET Magazine, The Washington Post, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Forbes Woman, Fox 5 News and The Network Journal. She is proud to be a member of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network and the Young Entrepreneurs Council. In her free time, Rosetta writes poetry and eats way too many desserts. She also tweets. A lot.

The topic of Rosetta’s keynote speech is “Social Media for Thought Leadership.”  In this new and evolving era of online communication, organizations with an understanding of how to best use technology are also best poised to practice thought leadership, build large networks and uncover hidden professional development opportunities. But how to get past the hype to a real return on investment? If you feel frustrated by the elusive promise of shiny social media tools, this session is for you!
